SenseScan · Terms v1.0 · 25 October 2026

The short version. SenseScan tells you what a code contains. It does not tell you whether acting on it is safe, and it cannot. The decision to open a link, join a network or make a payment remains yours.

SenseScan reads codes. It does not vet them.

The app decodes a QR code or barcode and lays out its contents in full, so you can read them before anything happens.

It does not check whether a link is malicious, whether a website is genuine, whether a payment request comes from the business it names, or whether a product barcode belongs to the product it is printed on. It has no internet access and cannot look anything up. Where it shows a built-in check, a registry prefix or which part of a web address decides, those are facts about the code in front of it — not judgements about anybody, and not assurances.

You should not treat the absence of a warning as an assurance that something is safe.

What SenseScan is not

It is not antivirus, not a phishing filter, not a payment service, and not a substitute for care. It never takes possession of money and never contacts a payment network. When you choose to act, the request is handed to another app on your phone, and what that app does is governed by its own terms.

What we say about barcodes and addresses

For a product barcode, SenseScan checks the digits against the published GS1 numbering rules and reports whether they add up, and which GS1 office the company registered with or, for a number GS1 sets aside, what it is — a book or a coupon, for example. On a GS1 label it also reports a part that breaks GS1's rules, and a date, such as an expiry, that has passed. For a web address it reports what the address itself contains — tracking parameters, a known short-link host, characters outside the plain A–Z alphabet — and marks which part of it decides the site you would actually reach, read from a published list of domain suffixes carried inside the app.

That mark says where the boundary falls. It is not a statement that a site is safe or unsafe.

Some barcode formats carry no length and no check digit. A label with part of it covered, worn or outside the frame can then be read as a shorter number that looks complete, and nothing in the code itself shows the difference. Where the digits do carry a check digit and it adds up, SenseScan says so.

Acting on a code is your decision

Nothing opens, dials, messages or pays on its own. Where a code can be acted on, SenseScan shows the destination, asks once more, and then hands the request to another app on your phone — your browser, your payment app, your dialler. What happens after that is between you and that app.

You are responsible for deciding whether to act on what a code contains, including anything you copy from this app and use elsewhere.

No warranty

SenseScan is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. It uses an open-source decoder, but whatever is true of that decoder elsewhere says nothing about this particular application of it: no software can be guaranteed free of defects, and this app has not been independently audited. No app, however well built, can protect you on a phone that is itself compromised — by malware, by a malicious keyboard, or by someone with physical access to it while unlocked.

Who provides SenseScan

SenseScan is developed and published by Saurabh Arora, trading as SA SecLabs. Any reference to “we” or “us” in these terms means that.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Saurabh Arora, trading as SA SecLabs, is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of SenseScan — including any decision you make after reading a result, a payment made to the wrong recipient, a website visited, a network joined, a code that was misread, or a code that was replaced or tampered with before you scanned it. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you are a consumer, this does not affect any rights you have under the law of the country you live in.

Nothing is kept unless you save it

SenseScan stores no history. Codes you scan, and text you send it, are shown and forgotten. There is no account and nothing for us to hold. The only thing kept is a QR you save as your own under My shop, on your phone, and you can remove it there — see the privacy policy.

Changes

If a future version ever involves a network — it is not planned — that will be clearly disclosed, it will be something you choose to turn on, and these terms and the privacy policy will be updated before it happens.
